Biographical Information[edit]

Masaru Fujii has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.

Fujii pitched for ENEOS after he graduated from University. He pitched for Japan in the 2019 Asian Championship. In his debut, he pitched 2 innings with 4 strikeouts, and completed a combined 5 inning no-hitter against Hong Kong with Yuichiro Okano. He relieved Yoshiki Yamada against China, striking out the side (Nan Du, Jinjun Luo, Jin Yang). He then relieved Shota Abe against South Korea, pitched 2 hitless innings and struck out 3. He didn't appear in the Gold Medal Game, and Japan wound up with the Silver Medal. [1]

He was picked by the Rakuten Golden Eagles in the 3rd round of the 2020 NPB draft. [2] He debuted on April 28, 2022, pitched 6 shutout innings and collected the first big club win from the Chiba Lotte Marines [3] Fujii went 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA in '22, then he had a 3-0 record with a 2.29 ERA in 2023. He broke out in 2024, and he was selected into the 2024 NPB All-Star Game. Fujii relieved Kohei Arihara in the 2nd inning of Game 2, but he surrendered a grand slam to Shogo Sakakura.[4] He ended up 11-5 with a 2.93 ERA, and he was 4th in the Pacific League in wins (tied with Takahisa Hayakawa and Livan Moinelo).
