Biographical Information[edit]
Masanobu Shimano played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.
Shimano signed with the Taiyo Whales in 1959, and he went 11-for-76 in his first season. He shared the starting catcher spot with Kiyoshi Doi in 1960, and he hit .167/.231/.229 in 68 games. Shimano recorded a .213/.269/.273 batting line in 1961, and he improved to .251/.309/.335 in 108 games in 1962. However, his batting line fell to .169/.252/.229 in 1963, and he went 3-for-19 in 1964. Shimano was 6-for-49 in 1965, and he was traded to the Sankei Atoms for Kimitaka Sugimoto. Shimano had a 5-for-44 record in 1966, and he announced his retirement after he went 3-for-32 in 1967.
Overall, Shimano hit .187/.242/.243 with 148 hits and 7 homers in 9 seasons in NPB.
