Biographical Information

Kimitaka Sugimoto played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.

Sugimoto signed with the Kokutetsu Swallows in 1961, and he hit .240/.319/.347 in 89 games in his first season. He slumped to .185/.259/.265 in 1962, and he was 1-for-22 in 1963. Sugimoto took Masataka Tsuchiya's starting second baseman spot in 1964, and he played 127 games with a .223/.280/.321 batting line. He recorded a .237/.268/.318 batting line in 1965, then he was traded to the Taiyo Whales for Masanobu Shimano. Sugimoto struggled in 1967 as he hit .171/.209/.244, and he announced his retirement after he went 11-for-50 in 1968.

Overall, Sugimoto hit .217/.278/.310 with 305 hits and 22 homers in 7 seasons in NPB.
