Masaki Minami pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.
Minami was 15-14 with a 2.15 ERA in his college career, and he won the MVP of the Tohto University Base Ball League in the 2009 fall season. He was drafted by the Chiba Lotte Marines in the 2nd round of the 2010 NPB draft, and he missed his first season due to right shoulder injury. Minami notched 6 holds with a solid 0.36 ERA in 26 appearances in 2012, and he his ERA rose to 4.02 in 28 games in 2013. He only pitched 14 games with a 6.75 ERA in 2014, and he spent the entire 2015 season in the minors. Minami came back in 2016, and he collected 16 holds with a 2.74 ERA in 57 appearances. He was 10th in appearances in the Pacific League, 12 behind Hiroyuki Fukuyama. He then slumped to a 5.09 ERA in 19 relief outings in 2017, and he notched 6 holds with a 3.00 ERA in 35 games in 2018. However, Minami suffered from ossification of the yellow ligament, so he only got 11 more appearances before he announced his retirement in 2021. He later scouted for the Marines.
Overall, Minami was 11-8 with a 3.56 ERA and 37 holds, struck out 183 and pitched 203 1/3 innings in 9 seasons in NPB.
