Biographical Information[edit]

Masakatsu Tsuchiya played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years

Tsuchiya was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the first round of the 1974 NPB draft, and he was 0-1 with a 4.28 ERA in 1975. He only pitched 8 games with a 8.25 ERA in 1976, and his ERA was 5.40 in 9 appearances in 1977. Tsuchiya then went 0-2 with a 7.38 ERA in 1978, and he was 2-6 with a 4.76 ERA and a save in 1979. He had a 1-4 record with a 4.87 ERA in 1980, and he recorded a solid 1.91 ERA in 23 games in 1981. He pitched 13 games with a 3.00 ERA in 1982, and the Dragons traded him to the Lotte Orions for Jun Irisawa. Tsuchiya's ERA was 2.31 in 29 relief outings in 1984, and he went 2-2 with a 4.72 ERA in 1985. He recorded a 4.61 ERA with 2 saves in 36 games in 1986, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Tsuchiya was 8-22 with 4 saves a 4.86 ERA, struck out 517 and pitched 244 innings in 11 seasons in NPB.
