Biographical Information[edit]

Masahisa Fukuda signed with the Nankai Hawks in 1956, and he had a 3.00 ERA in 6 games in 1957. He was turned into an outfielder in 1958, and he only got 4 at-bats combined in the next two seasons. Fukuda hit .214/.236/.437 with 6 homers in 1960, and he played 104 games with a .191/.236/.331 batting line in 1961; he had 148 plate appearances as he was not a starter despite his regular usage. He went 13-for-59 in 1962, and he went to the Yomiuri Giants. Fukuda then hit .284/.293/.432 in 1963, and he was 3-for-13 in 1964 then he announced his retirement. Fukuda later coached the minors team of the Giants from 1965 to 1969, and he was their fielding coach from 1970 to 1974. He was Yomiuri's batting coach in 1975, and he became the minor league manager of the Nippon Ham Fighters from 1977 to 1978. Fukuda went to the Lotte Orions as their bench coach from 1979 to 1981, and he was the batting coach for the Hawks in 982 and the bench coach for the Chunichi Dragons in 1983.

Overall, Fukuda hit .217/.248/.370 with 85 hits and 11 homers in 8 seasons in NPB.
