Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Mark Wagner played in the Boston Red Sox system from 2005 to 2012 and in the San Francisco Giants system in 2013. He reached Triple-A in parts of three seasons, but never ascended to the major leagues.

He was drafted twice. Initially, he was taken by the Atlanta Braves in the 29th round of the 2002 amateur draft, a couple picks ahead of pitcher Alex Hinshaw, but opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Red Sox in the 9th round of the 2005 amateur draft, a few picks after pitcher Robert Mosebach. He was signed by scout Dan Madsen.

Though he was a South Atlantic League Mid-Season All-Star in 2006, perhaps his best campaign was 2007, when he hit .318/.406/.533 with 14 home runs, 82 RBI, 35 doubles, 55 walks and just 46 strikeouts in 95 games for the Lancaster JetHawks. Despite his slash line dropping to .219/.304/.363 the next year, he still earned a spot in the Arizona Fall League, hitting .288/.373/.542 with 4 home runs and 8 RBI in 18 games for the Scottsdale Scorpions. He reached Triple-A for the first time in 2009, batting .214/.268/.351 43 games for the Pawtucket Red Sox; he hit .257/.343/.414 on the year as a whole.

Overall, Wagner hit .258/.342/.416 with 52 home runs and 290 RBI in 563 games over 8 minor league seasons. At Triple-A, he batted .208/.260/.331 in 82 games.
