Biographical Information[edit]

Makoto Kamigochi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.

Kamigochi was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the 3rd round of the 1969 NPB draft, and he hit .183/.222/.217 in 64 appearances spread over 71 games in his first season, used frequently as a defensive sub in the outfield. He struggled again in 1971 as his batting line was .154/.228/.231, and he recorded a.192/.216/.273 batting line in 66 games in 1972. Kamigochi then played 118 games with a .218/.270/.294 batting line in 1973, and he improved to .237/.276/.336 in 1974. The Carp traded him with Toru Shibuya to the Nippon Ham Fighters for Tsuyoshi Oshita, and he was used as their main utility man in 1975. Kamigochi hit .241/.288/.342 in 93 contests that season, and he crushed a career-high 10 homers with a .251/.296/.360 batting line in 1976. He went 17-for-71 in 1977, and he announced his retirement. He then ran a grilled chicken restaurant in Hiroshima after retiring.

Overall, Kamigochi hit .230/.274/.320 with 328 hits and 24 homers in 8 seasons in NPB.
