In 1938 Joe "Lefty" Winfield played for the Longview Cannibals. He was working for Humble Oil at the time when he was approached by the Longview team to Pitch. He pitched and won his first game and was signed on. He was 9-5 with a 4.14 ERA in 1938 He was also 33 years old at the time. He went on to play 12 years total and was a manager one year. He played with Pt. Arthur, New Orleans, Tyler, Wichita Falls, Abbeville, and Marshall

* Due to Sulphur Springs disbanding June 7, 1925, Longview was consolidated with Mt. Pleasant, playing games in both cities as the Longview-Mount Pleasant Longcats until July 12 when the club settled permanantly in Longview.
