Biographical Information[edit]
Leonel Moas Jr. has played in the Cuban Serie Nacional and for the Cuban national team. His father Leonel Moa (both have gone by Moa and Moas) starred in Cuba but never made the national team.
He debuted for the Ganaderos de Camagüey in the 2013-2014 Serie Nacional, going 0 for 9 while backing up Osmel Águila in left. He was 0 for 4 in 2014-2015 and 4 for 46 with a walk, run and 2 RBI in 2015-2016. At age 20, he became a regular and hit .250/.282/.337 in 2016-2017, split between right and center. He improved to .341/.389/.511 in 2017-2018 but did not join another team when the Ganaderos did not qualify for the second half of the season.
In 2018-2019, he slipped to .254/.299/.364 followed by .242/.283/.344 in 2019-2020 before improving to .302/.356/.448 in 2020-2021. He drove in 53 in 73 games, doubling 16 times. He was better yet in 2021-2022 (labeled as 2022-2023 in the BR Register), batting .333/.378/.506. His five triples tied Juan Arencibia and Luis Mateo for 5th in the loop. Cuba began the Cuban Elite League that summer and he hit .241/.268/.358 for the Ganaderos de Sancti Spiritus, Ciego de Avila & Camagüey.
Moas was 2 for 19 with a double, walk, run and RBI for Cuba in the 2022 Haarlem Baseball Week. [1] His batting line in 2022-2023 was .260/.329/.372 for Camagüey. His six triples tied Rodolexis Molina for third-most. He went 2-for-22 in the playoffs. He was with the Leñadores de Las Tunas in the 2023 Elite League, hitting .273/.354/.318 in the regular season and going 0 for 5 in the postseason. [2] He
Leonel hit .308/.366/.491 with 23 doubles in 75 games in the 2024 Serie Nacional. He tied Yudier Rondón for 4th in doubles. He hit .358/.427/.568 with 26 runs in 33 games for Las Tunas in the Elite League and remained sharp in the playoffs at .341/.400/.512. He batted .361/.408/.540 in the 2025-2026 Serie Nacional. He was among the leaders in hits (95, tied Yansue Moré for 6th) and total bases (142, 6th). Making Cuba's team for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, being their primary left fielder. He grounded out against Panama's Logan Allen his first time up and finished 1-for-9 with a double, steal, run and a RBI. His hit was off Elkin Alcala of Colombia. [3]
