Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Lee Stoppelman played in the St. Louis Cardinals system from 2012 to 2015. He spent parts of two seasons at Triple-A, but never ascended to the majors.
After going 10-0 with a 1.47 ERA in 14 games (11 starts) for University of Central Missouri in 2012, he was taken by the Cardinals in the 24th round of that year's draft and was signed by scout Kris Gross. He continued his hot pitching into the pro ranks, going 2-1 with a 0.79 ERA in 22 relief appearances for the Batavia Muckdogs, striking out 49 in 34 1/3 innings that year. He was a New York-Penn League Mid-Season All-Star. He followed that with a 6-3 record and 1.50 ERA in 55 games between three clubs in 2013, including a 4.50 mark in 3 games for the Memphis Redbirds in his first taste of Triple-A. He had 78 Ks in 66 innings and was a MiLB.com Organization All-Star. He earned a spot in the Arizona Fall League following the season, posting a 2.89 ERA in 9 games for the Salt River Rafters. His ERA slipped to 5.47 in 2014 and 8.10 in 2015 to end his career.
Overall, Stoppelman went 9-9 with a 3.47 ERA in 148 relief appearances over four seasons. In 176 1/3 innings, he allowed 133 hits and 94 walks (1.287 WHIP), while striking out 208 batters (10.6 K/9 IP).
