Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Kyle Greenwalt played professionally from from 2007 to 2013, peaking at Double-A. He was taken by the Houston Astros in the 20th round of the 2007 amateur draft, a couple picks ahead of outfielder Carlos Moncrief. He was signed by scout Ed Edwards.
After beginning his career by going 0-7 with a 7.53 ERA in 12 games (8 starts) for the Greeneville Astros in 2007, he rebounded to go 7-4 with a 3.01 ERA in 15 games (14 starts) between Greeneville and the Tri-City ValleyCats in 2009. In 2010, he earned a spot in the Arizona Fall League, going 2-0 with a 2.35 ERA in 5 starts for the Peoria Javelinas. In 2012 and 2013, he pitched for the independent New Jersey Jackals to wrap up his career.
In 2008, he was second in the Appalachian League in hits allowed (77), behind Raul Rivero's 84. In 2009, he tied Brad Hand for the South Atlantic League lead in losses with 13. In 2010, he was second in the California League in hits allowed (191), behind Ross Seaton's 198. He was also second in runs allowed (111), behind Seaton's 126. Lastly, he was second in earned runs allowed (90), behind Seaton's 108.
Overall, Greenwalt went 39-50 with a 5.00 ERA in 149 games (113 starts). In 644 innings, he allowed 768 hits and 179 walks (1.470 WHIP), while striking out 452 batters.
