Biographical Information[edit]
Kota Soejima played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.
Soejima was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the 5th round of the 1996 NPB draft, and he went 3-for-16 in 1997. He crushed 8 homers with a .266/.329/.399 batting line in 1998 while backing up in the outfield, at first base and at third base, and he slumped to .170/.196/.189 in 1999. Soejima bounced back soon, and he had a .321/.385/.557 batting line with a career-high 10 homers in 2000. He hit .212/.316/.333 in 69 games (76 at-bats) in 2001, and he crushed a pinch-hit game-winning solo shot against Akira Okamoto in the 2001 Nippon Series Game 4. The Swallows beat the Kintetsu Buffaloes in 5 games. Soejima was 5-for-38 in 2002 before the Swallows traded him to the Orix BlueWave for Nobuyuki Ebisu, and he hit .257/.315/.317 in 37 games in the rest of the season. He recorded a .216/.320/.284 batting line in 2003, and he announced his retirement after he went 6-for-31 in 2004.
Overall, Soejima hit .255/.325/.385 with 233 hits and 21 homers over 915 at-bats in 8 seasons in NPB.
