Biographical Information

Koji Tanizaki was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the 4th round of the 1978 NPB draft, and he stayed in the minors in 1980. He had a 6.10 ERA in 6 games in 1981, and he allowed 10 runs in 9 innings in 1982. Tanizaki led the Western Leagues in wins and ERA in '82, then he led the league in ERA again in 1983. He also pitched 12 games with a 3.53 ERA for the top team that season, but he only got 4 appearances combined in the next four seasons. Tanizaki had a 2.6 ERA in 11 relief outings in 1988, and he announced his retirement in 1989 after allowing 13 runs in 10 2/3 innings.
