Biographical Information[edit]
Koichi Ogawa played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.
Ogawa was drafted by the Nippon Ham Fightersin the 2nd round of the 1987 NPB draft, and he hit .252/.321/.331 in 99 games in his first season as the starting second baseman of the Fighters, getting the opportunity because Kazuyuki Shirai was injured. He improved to .306/.375/.411 in 1989, and he collected 18 doubles with a .290/.369/.380 batting line in 1990. Ogawa played .243/.328/.354 in 98 games in 1991, then Atsushi Kataoka took his starting spot in 1992. Ogawa had a .252/.325/.315 batting line in 50 appearances that season, and he batted .202/.286/.301 in 1993. His batting line was .264/.346/.397 in 1994, and he slumped to .150/.266/.215 in 1995. Ogawa then went 15-for-73 in 1996, and he didn't get more than 50 at-bats in a season again before the Fighters released him in 1998. He signed with the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks, but he stayed in the minors for the entire 1999 season and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Ogawa hit .249/.329/.341 with 439 hits and 25 homers in 11 seasons in NPB.
