Biographical Information[edit]

Koichi Kitagawa played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Kitagawa signed with the Kintetsu Buffaloes in 1964, and he went 10-for-56 in his first season. He then hit .167/.194/.183 in 108 games in 1965, and he improved to .254/.274/.365 in 1966 so he got a starting spot in the outfield. Kitagawa recorded a .250/.302/.320 batting line with 5 homers in 1967, and he played 113 games with a .222/.272/.286 batting line in 1968. However, he lost his spot after Yozo Nagafuchi shined in 1969, and he only went 9-for-32 in that season. He hit .282/.351/.330 in 78 games in 1970, and his batting line fell to .229/.304/.301 in 1971. Kitagawa bounced back soon, and he hit .302/.362/.430 in 68 appearances as Kintetsu's main pinch-hitter. He recorded a .230/.277/.230 batting line in 1973, and he announced his retirement after he went 5-for-23 in 1974.

Overall, Kitagawa hit .240/.287/.312 with 366 hits and 18 homers in 11 seasons in NPB.
