Biographical Information[edit]

Ko Shimozuru played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.

Shimozuru was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the 4th round of the 2012 NPB draft, and he spent his first three seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only got 15 at-bats combined in the big club. He played 48 games with 5 homers in 2016 with a .250/.328/.452 batting line (his 116 PA would be his career high as he never became a regular starter), and he went 2-for-6 in the 2016 Nippon Series with a double against Takayuki Kato in Game 5. The Nippon Ham Fighters beat the Carp in 6 games. He also got a vote in the 2016 CL Rookie of the Year voting. Shimozuru was 1-for-9 in 2017, and he hit .263/.322/.425 in 2018. The Carp then traded him to the Rakuten Golden Eagles for Takumi Miyoshi, and he had a .250/.333/.341 batting line in 50 games in 2019. Shimozuru's batting line fell to .188/.257/.344 in 2020, and he announced his retirement after the went 1-for-10 in 2021.

Overall, Shimozuru hit .237/.304/.377 with 81 hits and 12 homers in 8 seasons in NPB.
