Biographical Information[edit]
Kiyotoshi Katase played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.
Katase signed with the Hiroshima Carp in 1988, but he spent his first three seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues; he never pitched more than 10 games a season in that period. Katase went 7-6 with a 3.55 ERA in 1992, and he was 5-6 with a 2.85 ERA in 1993. He slumped to 1-7 with a 4.84 ERA in 1994, and he recorded a 4.825 ERA in 7 games in 1995. Katase allowed 9 runs in 12 2/3 innings in 1996, and the Carp released him. He signed with the Hanshin Tigers, and he pitched 13 games with a 3.46 ERA in 1997. However, Katase only got 2 appearances in the next two seasons, and he announced his retirement in 1999.
Overall, Katase was 16-22 with a 3.85 ERA, struck out 237 and pitched 387 2/3 innings in 11 seasons in NPB.
