Biographical Information[edit]

Kenta Satake pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Satake was selected by the Hiroshima Carp in the 5th round of the 1999 NPB draft, and he had a 5.49 ERA in 22 appearances in 2000. He spent the next three seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues, and he only pitched 7 games with the big club. He had a 3.91 ERA in 32 appearances in 2004, and he pitched a career-high 50 games with a 5.94 ERA in 2005. Satake notched 7 holds with a 4.73 ERA in 32 relief outings in 2006, and he had a 4.66 ERA with 8 holds in 20 games in 2007. The Carp then traded him to the Rakuten Golden Eagles for Rui Makino, and he was 2-0 with a 2.14 ERA in 2008. He also became the first Rakuten pitcher to get a win with only one pitch. Satake collected a career-high 10 holds in 2009, but his ERA rose to 5.06 in 34 appearances. He then recorded a 4.57 ERA in 20 relief outings in 2010, and his ERA was 4.96 in 17 games in 2011. He allowed 8 runs in 4 innings in 2012, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Satake was 5-8 with a 4.91 ERA and 41 holds, struck out 186 and pitched 223 2/3 innings in 11 years in NPB. Often a LOOGY, he averaged under an inning per game (he made 261 appearances).
