Biographical Information

Kengo Matsumoto had pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Matsumoto was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the 2nd round of the 2023 NPB draft; the scout was Chikashi Nakanishi. He debuted against the Hiroshima Carp on May 15, and he completed a shutout with 118 pitches. Matsumoto was the only player in NPB history to complete a walk-free shutout in his first game, and he was just the 2nd Swallows pitcher to get a shutout in his first game (following Tsunezo Koyama). He was 1-1 with a 4.40 ERA in 2024, and he went 4-2 with a 2.49 ERA in the NPB Farm Leagues.
