He broke out in 1996, and he went 9-6 with a 3.38 ERA. He led the Central League with 4 shutouts, tying Masaki Saito. However, Yamasaki's ERA rose to 5.17 in 20 games in 1997, and he only pitched 7 games combined in the next two seasons. The Chiba Lotte Marines picked him up, and Yamasaki struggled again in 2002 as his ERA was 5.00 in 40 games. He allowed 5 runs in 6 1/3 innings in 2003, and he improved to a 3.05 ERA in 39 appearances in 2004. Yamasaki collected 6 holds with a 3.35 ERA in 40 games in 2005, but he failed to return to the top team before he announced his retirement in 2007. He later scouted for the Carp, and he was the minor league pitching coach for the Marines in 2009.
Overall, Yamasaki was 17-18 with a 4.05 ERA, struck out 242 and pitched 390 2/3 innings in 12 seasons in NPB.
