Biographical Information[edit]

Ken Sakurai pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 5 years

Sakurai was drafted by the Toei Flyers in the first round of the first 1966 NPB draft after they lost the lottery for the rights to Yutaka Enatsu. He only pitched 2 games in 1967, then he went 2-6 with a 5.44 ERA in 1968. Sakurai had a 4.67 ERA in 19 games in 1969, and he went 3-8 with a 4.34 ERA in 1970. However, his ERA rose to 7.07 in 8 games in 1971, and he never reached the big club again before he announced his retirement in 1974.

Overall, Sakurai was 6-17 with a 5.12 ERA, struck out 91 and pitched 211 1/3 innings in 5 seasons in NPB.
