Biographical Information[edit]

Keisuke Okamoto played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.

Okamoto was drafted by the Nankai Hawks in the 4th round of the 1971 NPB draft as a pitcher, and he spent his first five seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues. He was turned into a position player in 1977, and he hit .245/.311/.415 in 55 games in 1979, being used as a back-up outfielder. Okamoto was often used as platoon player against southpaws, and he crushed 7 homers with a .252/.289/.477 batting line in 1980. He recorded a .225/.276/.388 batting line in 1981, and he was moved to first base in 1982; his 62 games led the team at the position. Okamoto's batting line was .229/.283/.312 that season, and he hit .250/.313/.382 in 1983. He played 81 games with a .256/.324/.450 batting line in 1984, and he crushed a career-high 9 homers with a .257/.309/.439 batting line in 1985. The Hawks then traded him to the Yomiuri Giants for Keiji Hashimoto after he hit .243/.316/.307 in 1986, but he was 0-for-5 in 1987 and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Okamoto hit .244/.303/.389 with 288 hits and 37 homers in 9 seasons in NPB.
