Biographical Information[edit]
Kazukuni Muto was drafted by the Nankai Hawks in the first round of the 1976 NPB draft out of high school, but he refused to sign and continued on to college. He was then drafted by the Hawks, Kintetsu Buffaloes, Lotte Orions and the Nippon Ham Fighters in the second round of the 1980 NPB draft, and the Orions won the lottery for the rights to him. Muto was 0-for-6 in 1981, then he hit .118/.189/.147 in 21 games in 1982. He did win a batting title in the minor Eastern League that year. He then recorded a .235/.316/.412 batting line in 37 games in 1983, but he only got 8 more at-bats for the top team before he announced his retirement in 1988.
