Biographical Information[edit]

Kazuhito Horii was drafted by the Nankai Hawks in the 7th round of the 1969 NPB draft, and he was mainly used as a defensive replacement and pinch-runner. He only got 2 at-bats combined in his first two seasons, and he was 0-for-5 in 54 games in 1973. Horii appeared in 3 games in the 1973 Nippon Series as a pinch-runner, and the Hawks lost to the Yomiuri Giants in 5 games. He and his father Kazuo Horii were the first pair of father-and-son to both play in the Nippon Series. Horii hit .313/.429/.563 with 11 steals in 59 games in 1974, and he was 4-for-15 in 1975. He went 4-for-26 in 1976, and he had a 6-for-24 in 1977. Horii played 108 games combined in the next two seasons, but he only got 20 at-bats combined. He was 0-for-6 in 1980, and he announced his retirement. Horii later became a scout for the Hawks and Kintetsu Buffaloes, signing Yoshiaki Nishikawa, Norihiro Nakamura, Tomotaka Sakaguchi and Takahiro Okada.

Overall, Horii hit .207/.328/.297 with 23 hits in 386 games in 10 seasons in NPB. He had 111 runs to 111 hits and stole 48 bases in 64 tries.
