Biographical Information[edit]
Katsunori Tomari played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.
Tomari was drafted by the Hanshin Tigers in the 2nd round of the 1980 NPB draft, and he spent his first six seasons primarily in the NPB Farm leagues; he only got 43 at-bats combined for the top team. He crushed 5 homers with a .270/.279/.438 batting line in 1987, and he recorded a .248/.280/.310 batting line in 1988. Tomari then improved to .301/.328/.447 in 1989, but he was 4-for-38 in 1990. The Tigers then traded him with Eiji Iwakiri, Chikafusa Ikeda, Hisashi Ono to the Daiei Hawks for Masahiko Migita, Toyotoshi Chikada, Yoshiaki Nishikawa, Hiroyuki Yoshida and Shuji Fujimoto, and he hit .275/.310/.500 in 1991. He stayed in the minors for the entire 1992 season, and he announced his retirement. Tomari later became an umpire for the Central League from 1993 to 2006, and he worked the 2002 NPB All-Star Game.
Overall, Tomari hit .255/.282/.385 with 126 hits and 14 homers in 8 seasons in NPB.
