Biographical Information

Katsumi Kato signed with the Yomiuri Giants in 1955, and he only got 16 at-bats combined in his first five seasons. Since the Giants already had star catcher Masaaki Mori, Kato didn't get many chances with the top team. He went 5-for-17 in 1960, and he only played 2 more games before he announced his retirement in 1963. He later scouted for the Giants, signing Kazuhiro Yamakura, Tatsunori Hara, Hiromi Makihara and Koji Goto.
