Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Karl Jernigan played in the San Francisco Giants system in 2002 and 2003.

He was drafted three times. Initially, he was taken by the Texas Rangers in the 15th round of the 1997 amateur draft, a few picks after outfielder Jason Michaels, but opted not to sign. He was then taken by the Oakland Athletics in the 41st round of the 2000 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of infielder Eric Crozier, but again, he did not sign. He finally inked a contract after being taken by the Giants as the final pick of the 22nd round of the 2001 amateur draft.

He slashed .287/.330/.383 with 1 homer and 10 RBI in 34 games for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in 2002, then .197/.279/.256 with 1 homer, 18 RBI and 12 steals in 70 games for the Hagerstown Suns in 2003. Overall, he hit .224/.294/.293 with 2 homers, 28 RBI and 15 steals in 104 games.
