Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Juri Perez played in the Houston Astros system from 2007 to 2013, beginning his career at 16 years old. Seasons of note include 2008, 2009 and 2012. In 2008, he was 4-4 with a 2.68 ERA in 12 games (11 starts) for the VSL Astros. In 2009, he went 3-1 with a 2.79 ERA in 15 games (8 starts) for the Greeneville Astros, striking out 60 batters in 51 2/3 innings. In 2012, he went 4-3 with a 2.58 ERA in 14 games (11 starts) between the Tri-City ValleyCats and Lexington Legends. 2011 was a rough campaign, as he went 1-7 with a 6.11 ERA. He was second in the NY-Penn League in earned runs allowed with 41, behind Rob Nixon's 43, though he tied multiple pitchers (including future major leaguers Jose Urena and Nick Kingham) for the league lead in starts with 15.

Overall, Perez went 16-18 with a 3.81 ERA in 93 games (46 starts). In 318 2/3 innings, he allowed 309 hits and 126 walks (1.365 WHIP), while striking out 256 batters. He peaked at Single-A.
