Biographical Information[edit]

Junpei Takahashi represented Japan in the 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup, pitching four shutout innings for the Silver Medalists; he got the win against Cuba's Lázaro Najarro. The Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, Nippon Ham Fighters and Chunichi Dragons selected him in the first round of the 2015 NPB draft, and the Hawks won the lottery for the rights to him. Takahashi spent his first two seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues, and he only pitched one game combined with the big club. He was 0-2 with a 7.08 ERA for the Gigantes de Carolina in the 2018-2019 Puerto Rican League. He joined their big club bullpen in 2019, and he notched 17 holds with a 2.65 ERA in 45 appearances. He allowed 3 walks and 3 runs in 1/3 IP in the 2019 Japan Series; the Hawks beat the Yomiuri Giants. He stayed in the minors in 2020, and he pitched 11 shutout innings in 2021. However, Takahashi didn't pitch a single game at the top level after that season due to injuries, and he announced his retirement in 2023.
