Biographical Information[edit]

Junichi Sato played in the Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years and umpired for 30 years.

Sato was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the 3rd round of the 1982 NPB draft, and he went 5-for-35 in 1984. He hit .255/.271/.383 in 1985, but he only played 4 games in 1986. Sato had a .310/.322/.397 batting line in 62 games in 1987, and he only got 12 at-bats in the rest of his career. He announced his retirement in 1990, and he then was an umpire for the Pacific League from 1991 to 2020. He worked 2,148 games in his 30-yearcareer, and he worked in the 1998 NPB All-Star Game, 1999 NPB All-Star Game, 2000 Nippon Series, 2005 NPB All-Star Game, 2005 Nippon Series, 2006 Nippon Series, 2008 Nippon Series, 2012 Nippon Series, 2014 NPB All-Star Game and 2015 Nippon Series.

Overall, Sato hit .230/.259/.322 with 35 hits and 4 homers in 6 seasons in the NPB.
