Biographical Information[edit]
Juan Polo has pitched in the minors and for the Colombian national team.
He was signed by Kansas City Royals scout Rafael Miranda and Orlando Estevez in December 2018. [1] He split 2019 between the DSL Royals 1 and DSL Royals 2, going a combined 3-0 with a 6.75 ERA, striking out 36 in 21 1/3 IP (15.2 K/9) but also walking 23. He did not pitch again in the Royals chain. Signed by the Cincinnati Reds, he struggled for the 2024 ACL Reds (8 R in 2 1/3 IP). He was 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA for the Vaqueros de Monteria in the 2024-2025 Colombian League, walking 7 in 1 2/3 IP.
Pitching for Colombia in the 2025 Bolivarian Games, he relieved Luis De Avila with a 3-1 lead in the 4th against Ecuador. He retired Ledy Alvarez and Alfonso Jalil, walked Carlos Rodriguez and whiffed Cristian Ochoa. Rubén Galindo succeeded him. His other outing, he started versus Curaçao and worked 4 IP (1 H, 3 UER, 3 BB, 8 K) to defeat Djenior Mogen. He finished 4th in the Games in strikeouts, allowed the third-lowest average (after Ken Ishihara and Gedryon Basilia) and tied for the best ERA. Colombia won the Gold Medal. [2]
