Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Juan Burgos was signed by the Seattle Mariners as an international amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic on April 15, 2019. He made his professional debut that same year, pitching in 17 games (4 starts) for the DSL Mariners and going 2-3, 3.19. He then had to sit out the 2020 season when the minor leagues were shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic and returned to action in 2021, splitting the season between the ACL Mariners and Modesto Nuts. He had no wins or losses but recorded 6 saves in 14 games with an ERA of 4.41. He pitched for the two same teams in 2022, when his record was 2-0, 2.70 in 26 games and he struck out 46 batters in 43 1/3 innings.
He was with Modesto in the California League for a third straight season in 2023 and this time spent the entire year there, going 1-1, 2.53 with 7 saves in 30 games. In 2024, he moved to High-A with the Everett AquaSox of the Northwest League, going 2-5, 3.38 with 5 saves in 38 games. After making very slow progress up the organizational ladder in his first six seasons, his career suddenly hit the accelerator pedal in 2025, as in three months he made it through AA and AAA and reached the majors on July 1st. He went 2-1, 0.64 in 21 games for the Arkansas Travelers of the Texas League, and then 1-0, 3.00 in 4 games for the Tacoma Rainiers before getting the call to the Show. In his debut, he gave up 1 run in 2 innings in a 6-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals. He pitched three more times for the Mariners and had a 4.05 ERA in 6 2/3 innings when he was sent back to Tacoma on July 21st. However, the next big change was not far away as on July 30th, he was one of three prospects, alongside 1B Tyler Locklear and fellow pitcher Hunter Cranton, to be traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks in return for 3B Eugenio Suarez.
