Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Josh Axelson played in the St. Louis Cardinals system from 2000 to 2005 and in independent ball in 2006. He peaked at Double-A.

The Cardinals took him in the 5th round of the 2000 amateur draft, a few picks after pitcher Bobby Jenks. In his first campaign, he led the New York-Penn League in losses with 9, while pitching for the New Jersey Cardinals. He had one season of particular note in his career, 2003. That season, he went 4-4 with a 2.85 ERA in 36 games (9 starts) between the Palm Beach Cardinals and Tennessee Smokies. In 2006, he played for the independent Camden Riversharks to wrap up his career.

Overall, Axelson went 33-44 with a 4.64 ERA in 215 games (96 starts). In 737 2/3 innings, he allowed 744 hits and 270 walks (1.375 WHIP), while striking out 529 batters.
