Argimirio José Guanchez

José Guanchez pitched for several seasons in the minor leagues.
Guanchez had a strong pro debut in 2000 with San Joaquin in the Venezuelan Summer League, going 5-2 with a 1.39 ERA; had he qualified, he would have led the league in ERA. In 2001, he fell to 4-6, 4.36 for San Joaquin. The next year, José had a 3-3, 4.19 record for Ciudad Alianza.
Coming stateside in 2003, Guanchez went 5-0 with 8 saves and a 1.95 ERA for the GCL Red Sox despite over a hit per inning. He was one win shy of the Gulf Coast League lead and one save shy of the lead as well. He was named the All-Star relief pitcher in the GCL; the All-Star starting pitcher was Matt Capps.
The Valencia native spent 2004 with the Augusta Greenjackets (4-5, 3 Sv, 4.95, .314 opponent average) and the GCL Red Sox (0-1, 3 R in 3 2/3 IP). In 2005, he pitched for the Greenville Bombers (8 R, 7 BB, 6 H in 3 1/3 IP) and the Lowell Spinners (1-4, 8 Sv, 4.25). That ended his run in the Boston Red Sox chain.
He signed with CB Sant Boi in Spain for 2010 as did another former Venezuelan national team member, Junior Guerra. He made his debut with the club on March 6 versus El Llano. As a starter, he went 5 innings, fanning 10 and walking six and giving up two runs in a win.
