Biographical Information[edit]
John Lasch was a pitcher based from Albany, NY, who pitched in his hometown in the 1880s and 1890s, along with making numerous brief stops in other cities. He was considered a cool, steady pitcher[1].
Lasch had established himself in Albany by 1886 and in May 1887 had a trial game with Hartford in the Eastern League[2]. He pitched in Newburgh[3] and Glens Falls, NY[4] during the summer, then had a stint with Burlington, VT[5] in the Northeastern League. In 1888 he spent time with Jackson, MI in the Tri-State League.
He was back in Albany for most of 1889 pitching for semi-pro teams, but did go to Quincy, IL[6] for several weeks to pitch in the Central Inter-State League[7]. In 1890, Albany fielded a team in the New York State League, and Lasch began the year as a regular pitcher for the club, but was released in June due to a sore arm[8]. He made several starts soon afterwards with Oneonta in the same league, but was again released to make room for a fresh pitcher[9].
Lasch remained in Albany afterwards, rarely playing beyond 1890, where he became an insurance salesman[10].
