Biographical Information

Joe Kappel played for the Philadelphia Quakers in 1884 and the Philadelphia Athletics in 1890. He was a catcher with the Quakers while with the Athletics, for whom he played far more games, he appeared in the outfield and infield, but only occasionally at catcher.

Born in Philly, his minor league career from 1883-1896 took him to numerous stops.

His brother Henry "Heinie" Kappel was also in the majors in the late 1880s.
