Biographical Information[edit]
Jim Boyer had trials with the Martinsburg Blue Sox in 1928 and Waynesboro Red Birds in 1929 but was released both times due to a knee injury.
Boyer then served in the Navy from October 1929 to 1931, when he was discharged due to the knee.
Boyer began his umpiring career in the Eastern Shore League in 1937. He worked the Eastern League in 1938-1939, the International League in 1940, the American Association in 1941-1943, and was an American League umpire from 1944 to 1950. In 1947, he umpired in both the All-Star Game and the World Series.
From 1950 to his death in 1959 he was trainer of the Western Maryland College Green Terror. He was also coach of the baseball team from 1950 to 1956.
