Biographical Information

Jerry Schlegelmilch played in the minors then was a long-time college coach.

He was signed by the Minnesota Twins out of college. He hit .270/.339/.383 as the regular first baseman for the 1969 Wisconsin Rapids Twins. Moving up to the Lynchburg Twins, he was mostly used as an outfielder in '70, batting .264/.344/.385, with Jim Obradovich holding down 1B. He improved to .293/.393/.399 with 73 walks and 60 runs for Lynchburg in 1971, returning to first. He lost the Carolina League fielding title at 1B to Bob Beall by .00004, both rounding up to .990. He missed the top-ten in average by .001 but was 6th in OBP, between Dwight Evans and Jack Pierce. He tied for 7th in walks.

He was coach of Rio Hondo College from 1974-1990 and at Ricks College from 1991-2001. From 2002-2006 and again from 2019-2025, he was head coach of Southern Virginia University.
