Biographical Information[edit]
Jerry Connors played one game in the outfield for the Philadelphia Phillies against the Cleveland Spiders. The game was played in Cleveland, OH and newspapers at the time identified him as local player Jerry Connors. In fact, he was referred to under various spellings of his last name, including Conners, Connor and Conner, but no further information about that person was found.
Researcher Peter Morris figured that perhaps, his true name was not Connors or any variation thereof, but in fact O'Connor, and this matched the name of a player who played in Youngstown, OH at the time. That player was listed as Jeremiah H. O'Connor, matching the identity of someone who later became a firefighter in Cleveland. It seems clear that this was the actual ballplayer.
