Jerry Bell was being used in relief by the Milwaukee Brewers until late September of 1971. 1972 would see Jerry win his first three starting assignments, two over the Cleveland Indians and one over the New York Yankees. He then pitched a long relief outing to pick up a victory against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, in the heat of the "Pennant Fever". He was showing good control and spotted his pitches well.
