Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Jake Bennett was drafted twice by the Washington Nationals, for the first time in the 39th round of the 2019 amateur draft, out of high school, and again in the 2nd round of the 2022 amateur draft, out of the University of Oklahoma. In the meantime, he had seen his freshman season for the Sooners shut down after just three starts by the COVID-19 pandemic, but he had gone 10-4, 3,69 in 20 games in 2022 and played in the 2022 College World Series.

After going 1-6, 3.14 in 15 starts for two Nationals affiliates in 2023, he missed all of 2024 to an injury, then pitched at three levels and in the Arizona Fall League in 2025, including 10 games at AA with the Harrisburg Senators of the Eastern League. He was 2-5, 2.27 in 19 games that year. On December 15th, he was traded to the Boston Red Sox in return for Luis Perales and was immediately added to the 40-man roster. He started 2026 in the minors, going 2-1, 0.86 in his first five starts for the Worcester Red Sox before getting the call to Boston.

He made his major league debut at Fenway Park on May 1st, starting against the Houston Astros. He was impressive, allowing just 1 run, on a solo homer by Carlos Correa, in 5 innings and earning his first big league win by a 3-1 score.
