Biographical Information[edit]

Jack Scully was a minor league player from Holyoke, MA. He played for the Seneca Falls club of the Empire State League in 1907, and a June 1907 newspaper account identified him as the club's captain.[1] His obituary in Holyoke reported that he played on a New Haven baseball club under the assumed name of McDonnell, which likely would have occurred between 1906 and 1910.[2]

Scully was a graduate of Syracuse University and lettered in baseball in 1906, 1907, 1909, and 1910.[3] Before going to Syracuse, he played with the Holyoke High School team, and by 1914 he was director of athletics at Mercer University in Macon, GA, where he coached a winning baseball team.[4]

He practiced law in Syracuse before moving to Yonkers, NY[5]. He remained in Yonkers until his death on October 22, 1963.[6] His obituary reported his age as 71, which conflicts with multiple national census records that would have him as 76 or 77 years old in 1963. The later ages are also more consistent with his attendance at Syracuse in 1906.
