George Henry Abbott

Biographical Information[edit]

George Henry Abbott, known as Jack Abbott, was born in Manchester, NH, on February 6, 1873, the son of Jacob J. and Mary E. Abbott.[1] He graduated from Manchester High School in 1892 and attended Dartmouth College, where he played baseball and football.[2]

Abbott coached the University of Maine baseball team in 1896, and the team finished with a 5-4 record.[3] By 1899 he had signed with Manchester of the New England League; the Kennebec Journal described him as the "old time Manchester and Dartmouth catcher" and as formerly football coach of the University of Maine.[4]

After graduating from Dartmouth, Abbott went into manufacturing work in Enfield, NH, but later gave it up because of ill health. He died in Manchester, NH, on June 22, 1918.[5]
