Biographical Information

George Henry Abbott, known as Jack Abbott, was born in Manchester, NH, on February 6, 1873, the son of Jacob J. and Mary E. Abbott. He graduated from Manchester High School in 1892 and attended Dartmouth College, where he played baseball and football.

Abbott coached the University of Maine baseball team in 1896, and the team finished with a 5-4 record. By 1899 he had signed with Manchester of the New England League; the Kennebec Journal described him as the "old time Manchester and Dartmouth catcher" and as formerly football coach of the University of Maine.

After graduating from Dartmouth, Abbott went into manufacturing work in Enfield, NH, but later gave it up because of ill health. He died in Manchester, NH, on June 22, 1918.
