Biographical Information[edit]
Itaru Hashimoto played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.
Hashimoto was picked by the Yomiuri Giants in the fourth round in 2008 NPB draft. He hit .238 in ni-gun in 2009, and he came up to the big club for two games in April 2010. Hashimoto made his debut on April 27, as a defensive replacement for Alex Ramirez in left field. The next day, he struck out his lone trip to the plate after entering in center. He spent the rest of the season back in the minors. He made the Japanese national team roster for the 2010 Intercontinental Cup. Starting in center, he batted .120/.267/.160 with a run and two RBI, handling 11 putouts. In the 5th/6th place game against South Korea, down 1-0 in the 6th, he singled off Hee-soo Park to drive in Akira Nakamura to tie it then scored the winner on a hit by Takahiro Iwamoto. Hashimoto then hit .267/.391/.400 in 24 games for the Melbourne Aces in the 2010-2011 ABL.
The Miyagi native was 5-for-26 in 2011, and he hit .239/.297/.326 in 35 games in 2013. He had a 0-for-5 record in the 2013 Nippon Series, and the Giants lost to the Rakuten Golden Eagles in 7 games. Hashimoto broke out in 2014, and he played 103 games with a .256/.322/.330 batting line. He slumped to .219/.270/.336 in 2015, and he recorded a .233/.297/.338 batting line in 74 games in 2016. Hashimoto then batted .267/.331/.367 in 2017, but he was placed in the minors for the entire 2018 season. The Giants traded him to the Golden Eagles for cash, but he went 0-for-9 in 2019 and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Hashimoto hit .241/.303/.330 with 230 hits and 9 homers in 8 seasons in NPB.
