Biographical Information

Pitcher Indigo Diaz was drafted in the 27th round of the 2019 amateur draft by the Atlanta Braves out of Michigan State University. He was coming off a mediocre season in college, going 2-4, 5.73 in 24 games, but had pitched well in the New England Collegiate Baseball League the previous summer and before that in junior college.

In his first professional season, the big righthander went 1-0, 3.48 in 6 games for the GCL Braves. He then had to sit out the 2020 season when the minor leagues were shut down by the Coronavirus pandemic. In 2021, he split the season between the Rome Braves of the High-A East and the Mississippi Braves of the Double-A South, finishing at 6-2, 1.20 with 5 saves in 32 games, he struck out 83 batters in just 45 innings and was named an organizational All-Star after the season and also appeared in the Arizona Fall League. In 2022, he was with Mississippi for the whole season, going 3-4, 3.08 in 49 games, with 4 saves. His strikeout rate was not as overpowering as the year before, but he still picked up 63 Ks in 49 2/3 innings.

On December 28, 2022, he was traded by the Braves to the New York Yankees along with SS Caleb Durbin in return for major league reliever Lucas Luetge. A few weeks later, he was named to the Canadian national team for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. While he was hit pretty hard in the tournament, where he was facing players with much more experience than he had, he had a good season in the minors, going 1-1, 4.26 in 23 games between the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades and AA Somerset Patriots­. In 2024, however, he was limited to 14 games by an injury, including 3 on a rehabilitation assignment in the Florida Complex League. With Hudson Valley, he was 0-0, 2.38 in 11 games but just 11 1/3 innings. He was full healthy again in 2025 and had his best minor league season to date, going 8-3, 2.58 with 6 saves in 42 games for Somerset. He gave up just 36 hits and struck out 46 batters in 52 1/3 innings.

He became a free agent following the 2025 season and signed a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Shortly after that, he was named to Canada's roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
