Biographical Information[edit]
Hyuma Matsui was drafted by the Yokohama BayStars in the 7th round of the 2011 NPB draft, and he stayed in the minors in his first two seasons. He was 0-for-8 in 2014, and he won the main backup shortstop spot behind Toshihiko Kuramoto and Hiroyuki Shirasaki in 2015. Matsui played 59 games with a .224/.250/.345 batting line, and he was 5-for-35 in 2016. He only got 17 more at-bats for the big club, and he announced his retirement in 2020. His father Kazumi Matsui played for the Lotte Orions for 2 years, but he never reached the big club. He was named after Hyuma Hoshi, who was the main character of manga "Star of the Giants".
Overall, Matsui hit .182/.217/.278 with 32 hits in 6 seasons in NPB.
