Biographical Information[edit]
Hyeon-ah Kim has been on the South Korean women's national team.
She hit a whopping .579/.636/.632 with 9 RBI in 6 games in the 2023 Women's Baseball Asian Cup. Her hit off Asaka Tsuru in her first game saved South Korea from being no-hit by champion Japan. She followed with 3 hits and 5 RBI against Indonesia and 3 hits and 3 RBI versus Hong Kong. In the Bronze Medal Game, she was 1 for 4 with a RBI in a rematch with Hong Kong. The only downside was her .714 fielding at third. She was 10th in average and OBP, first in hits (11, two ahead of Soo-ji Ahn and Seo-jin Yang), 4th in RBI, tied for 6th in assists (8, even with Ji-a Lee and Vivien Cheung) and 3rd in errors (4, one behind Ni Putu Radha Ananditha Putri and Qianrong Zhuang). She did not make the All-Star team as Yi-Hsuan Chiu was picked at 3B. [1]
South Korea moved on to the 2023-2024 Women's Baseball World Cup; she was 3-for-12 with a double, fielding .667. Only Ju-a Park and Edith De Leija made more errors (than her 3) in Group A. [2] She had another 5-RBI day against Indonesia during the 2025 Women's Baseball Asian Cup; she posted a .409/.483/.500 line with 9 runs, 15 RBI and 8 steals (not caught) in 7 games; now a catcher, she fielded .968 and threw out 13% who tried to steal. She tied for 5th in hits (9), led in RBI (3 ahead of Mutsumi Kimura), tied Ahn and Yuria Hatanaka for 3rd in steals, tied Niluka Priyadarshani Hettige for 8th in putouts (26) and tied Richelle Toledo and Yu-Chuan Tu for the most runners thrown out. Ichika Yamamoto beat her out for the All-Star nod at catcher. [3]
When the Women's Professional Baseball League was founded, she was the 4th overall pick in the first draft, taken by Boston; she followed Kelsie Whitmore, Ayami Sato and Kylee Lahners. [4]
