Biographical Information[edit]

Hosei Takata was drafted by the Yomiuri Giants in the 5th round of the 2016 NPB draft; the scout was Akinori Masuda. He only pitched 2 games in the NPB Farm Leagues in 2017, and he was 11-2 with a 2.69 ERA in 2018. Takata led the Eastern League in wins (two ahead of Kan Otake), winning percentage, strikeouts (85, tied with Keiji Takahashi) and ERA for a pitching Triple Crown. He debuted with the big club on July 29, but he allowed 6 runs in 2 innings. Takata then pitched 2 games for the top team in 2019, and he was 6-6 with a 2.99 ERA in the minors. He also went 1-2 with a 2.00 ERA for the Indios de Mayaguez in the winter, and he was traded to the Rakuten Golden Eagles for Yuhei Takanashi in the middle of the 2020 season. Takata was 0-1 with a 9.39 ERA in 2021, and he announced his retirement after he allowed 5 runs in 5 innings in 2022.
