Hiroya Shimamoto has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Shimamoto was drafted by the Hanshin Tigers in the 2nd round of the development phase in the 2010 NPB draft, and he spent his first four seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues. He had a 8.84 ERA in 18 appearances in 2015, and he improved to a 3.65 ERA in 23 games in 2016. Shimamoto stayed in the minors in the next two seasons, and he broke out in 2019. He notched 11 holds with a 1.67 ERA in 63 appearances, and he was 9th in games pitched in the Central League (between Yariel Rodríguez and Yasuaki Yamasaki). Unfortunately, he underwent Tommy John surgery and missed the next two seasons.
The Nara native returned in 2022, and he pitched 15 games with a 2.57 ERA that season. On September 13, he broke Masashi Sajikihara's team record as he pitched 117 games since his debut without a loss. Shimamoto got 15 holds with a 1.69 ERA in 35 appearances in 2023, and he pitched 1/3 of a shutout inning in each of the 2023 Nippon Series Game 2, 4, 5 and 7. The Tigers beat the Orix Buffaloes in 7 games. Shimamoto's ERA was 2.81 in 33 games with 6 holds in 2024.
Shimamoto's repertoire included a fastball (peak 92 mph), slider and forkball.
